After dist-upgrading sid last night (2/23) both Iceweasel and Epiphany hang when loading various web pages. They seem to be pages with a lot of javascript going on, although I'm not sure. Turning off javascript in Iceweasel seems to stop it, though. linuxquestions.org and boardreader.com reliably cause this, gmail slightly less reliably. When it happens it usually loads the page as normal for a second or two and then the window goes unresponsive for as long as a minute. Usually it will come back and then hang again once or twice before the page is loaded. After that, everything functions normally until another such page is loaded.
What was part of the dist-upgrade last night ? iceweasel doesn't use libmozjs0d, so it if there hasn't been an update of iceweasel, this is probably something else... Mike
Hmm. Quite a bit got upgraded since I hadn't done a dist-upgrade in a few months. Iceweasel was among the upgrades. I'm not sure if/where there is a record of what got upgraded when. Also I noticed, turning off javascript doesn't entirely fix the hanging. It does for most sites, but a few I've noticed still hang, like cyclingnews.com for example.
That might be plugins, then. Try removing them, maybe ? Mike
i don't have any installed.
I lack ideas. Can you try to install various -dbg packages and attach a debugger when it hangs and see the backtrace then, and see if the backtrace evolves when continuing execution ? Mike
