pdfnup does not use /etc/papersize to set the default papersize.
tags 468225 + moreinfo thanks #include <hallo.h> * Andre Lehovich [Wed, Feb 27 2008, 12:11:39PM]: I am not an expert on papersize definitions. And there seem to be two options for papersizes, the one that is passed to "document" and the other passed to the geometry package. See --paper... options in pdfjam manpage (recent pdfjam like 2.04++). Which one do you want to be modified? Regards, Eduard.
Attached is a patch to make pdfjam read /etc/papersize with the same effect as explicit options --letterpaper --a4paper etc. The patch looks big because I had to relocate the error_exit() function higher up in the script so it could be called by the new code (which is only a few lines). Note - I can't include the patch in the body of this email because thunderbird sometimes corrupts white space even in plain-text emails (ugh).
This bug is in the current version of pdfjam in the texlive-extra-utils package: # apt-cache show texlive-extra-utils Package: texlive-extra-utils Source: texlive-extra Version: 2017.20170629-1 Installed-Size: 24687 Leo
paper=a4paper line with paper=`paperconf` (dependencies are fine, texlive-base already requires libpaper-utils), but that doesn't work. One needs to * translate aN into aNpaper (like a4 into a4paper) * check the list of /etc/papersize papers with the list of supported papersizes in the geometry package Not a big patch, not a big problem, but someone has to do it. Enjoy Norbert

Simply adding "paper" to end of the string found in /etc/papersize does not always give the correct result. 2. The geometry package (used by pdfjam) knows not exactly the same set of paper sizes as libpaper1 (compare /var/lib/dpkg/info/libpaper1\:amd64.templates w/ the papersizes found in the geometry documentation. So one would have to implement some kind of translation table. Would you be so kind to do that? Thanks! Hilmar

Dear Maintainer, I'm attaching a file with a list of all paper sizes known to /etc/papersize (libpaper1) and their sizes in mm. (I believe the geometry package can accept sizes in mm.) This list was obtained by running command paperconf -a -s -m -n on my Debian system, so perhaps if libpaper-utils could be added to the build dependencies for texlive-extra-utils, the whole process could be automated. I hope someone else has the skills to move this fix forward.
