Yesterday i updated my Debian/Sid box and a new release of rhythmbox was avaliable. After installed it didnt load any plugin that needed python, (covers, lyrics, ect). Ive attached the output of rhythmbox -d.
Solved. Rhytmbox should require python-gst0.10 as most plugins are useless without it.
for running rhythmbox plugins are not essential, so including python-gst0.10 in Recommends should be enough

I really dislike the solution of this. Mainly because users who have enabled those plugins gets warnings at startup without a clue why and without a way to disable the plugin (which is a problem of rhythmbox itself). What about splitting the plugins into a separate package that depends on python-gst0.10 and is recommended by rhythmbox? Florian
I was just bitten by this and it took me a while to locate this bug report. Could Rhythmbox please report a more descriptive warning to the user? For example, when I start Rhythmbox without python-gst, I simply get a warning that the cover art etc. failed to load. For having been bitten by this, I second the wish of a more descriptive error message. The splitting of modules seems to be a nice solution to me. Most users will want the plugins however, so what about having rhythmbox (virtual package) depend on rhythmbox-player and rhythmbox-plugins, the latter depending on python-gst0.10? Hello, I had the same problem (I installed rhythmbox without gnome), and installing python-gst didn't fix the errors I got with the Jamendo and Magnatune plugins. I fixed it by installing libgnomevfs2-extra It would be nice to fix this, it took me a lot of time to figure it out. Thank you for your time. Rol--and

Maybe your problem is related to python: try reinstalling every python package alredy installed in your system. I was stuck in the same situation after updating from a etch/lenny system to a pure lenny. Reinstalling python packages resolved my issues with rhythmbox plugins.
