If I go to bookmarks -> nearby sites -> xerces.local or durandal.local,
epiphany goes to http://fe80.com/ which describes itself as "adult
dating site travel media at fe80.com" ...

There may be two issues here. The first one, and IIRC, it is already in
the BTS, is that nearby sites doesn't use the name but the IP address,
which makes it useless with virtual hosting. The second one is that
the ipv6 url isn't supported, though I wonder if a
http://fe80:x:x:x:x:x:x:x:80/ url is actually valid (because of the
colons)

I believe that IPv6 addresses are represented in URLs like this:

http://[fe80::204:e2ff:fea9:9d35]

Although that does not work in Epiphany, http://[::1]/ does.

We really should not have enabled IPv6 in avahi before the rest of the
universe is ready for it--against the explicit wish of the upstream
author (#477714).

I can only second upstream's request to disable IPv6 support in avahi.

As soon as I enable sharing the ~/Public folder via gnome-user-share, my
computer appears in epiphany's "near sites" bookmarks menu, but with its
IPv6 address which epiphany isn't even able to handle, see #487525.
