when totem-mozilla plays audio or video files within mozilla, the seek
slider widget does not work correctly.

to reproduce this, go to http://revision3.com/diggnation, click on one
of the episodes, then click on one of the video file links under
"Download This Episode."

for the quicktime video, the slider will progress as the video plays,
but nothing happens when the slider is moved.

for the wmv video, the slider will also progress as the video plays, but
playback is stopped if it is moved.

for the xvid video, the slider is unmovable.

for the mp3 file, the slider is also unmovable.

the user should be able to use the slider to seek within videos as they
play (it might make sense to gray out the part of the slider that has
yet to download).

thanks for the hard work.

reassign 489467 totem
retitle 489467 totem: cannot seek during streaming video playback
thank you

i did a little more work, and found that this bug has to do with
totem's streaming playback in general. this applies to both
totem-gstreamer and totem-xine.

the comments about the seek bar behaviors in the last message are
relevant for totem-gstreamer. totem-xine's seek bar behavior is
different for the file types, but it still doesn't work correctly.

thanks

There are several upstream bugs about this. 361793 is about feedback,
and using the slider to show this. 524771 is about seeking in streaming
videos (seems to be GStreamer specific), the bug mentions Flash videos
specifically, but from a duplicate bug it seems to also be about
streaming in general.

434027 is also about seeking problems in streaming videos. It seems to
be the best match for what you describe above. It's set as NEEDINFO so
you should probably add your examples in a comment.

The position slider works with all files except the .flv files. With flv
files, the slider works but it seems to be represented in a wrong scale in the
window. The slider represents just the beginning few seconds of the file, and
reaches the end in that small time. We can adjust the slider inside that
few seconds, but cannot reach the rest of the file using the slider
because it is already at the end position although the player is into
just the 2-3 seconds of the file. Other than that the player works great.
Thank you for your effort.
