Hi.

Vixie's cron was replaced/renmaed to ISC cron and Debian's current
version seems to be veeeery outdated?!
Is there any reason for this? Any plans to switch to 4.1?

Thanks,
Chris.

There are several reasons why Cron is not updated with the latest
Vixie release (4.1) the main one is that there are not enough
resources to do this. Our cron version is heavily patched and we would
have to forward port all the patches to the next release, which is not
an easy task.

I already asked for help for maintaining cron (see #565143) asking for
this same thing a few months ago.

On the other hand, vixie cron is rather dead upstream, there have been
no changes post the 4.1 release available at
http://ftp.isc.org/isc/cron/ (dated january 2004)

The Red Hat / Fedora folks have forked off vixie-cron into cronie
"recently" (2008, IIRC) and this project [1] has been adopted by
Mandriva and Gentoo folks too. Maybe cron should be updated to this
fork instead.

Regards

Javier
