i dont know if its a matter of quod libet or of gstreamer (since
rhythmbox can crossfade between tracks using gstreamer) but crossfading
with quod libet does not work

Hi Dimitrios,

QuodLibet 2.1.98, which will be uploaded shortly, has
gapless playback support, which may be at least part of what
you're looking for. Upstream has stated that actual
crossfading is more complex than it sounds and it won't be
supported in quodlibet, and thus I'm marking this bug as
"wontfix". See

more details on upstream's position.
