When rightclicking on matroska mkv file and selecting properties, appears dialog saying Creating properties window, you can cancel this operation by clicking cancel. After clicking cancel nothing happens. Properies window never appears.

That was reported in May, no action whatsoever. I have the same problem now with .ogg files. OTOH, .ttf files open immediately. That is a bit a pain, because somehow nautilus insists on opening .ogg files with totem (which by itself is *really* a PITA, it starts slow, it hangs, whatever, for .ogg files ... wtf). But I cannot change the default file association because nautils just hangs there without creating the properties window. Please, ... some comment?

No it does not happen with every file. And getting a backtrace is not so easy. How do you stop the auto-restart feature of GNOME? I cannot kill nautilus because it will be restarted immediately. Ok, I installed libglib2.0-dbg and nautilus-dbg, started a twm session, started nautilus from within gdb. Interestingly here we get some nice features: Three times the property dialog didn't pop up, once it did pop up and showed me some settings. Starting (ie double cliking the ogg file) it *AFTER* a hang in the properties dialog created a segfault, bt full attached. What puzzles me is that in twm with nautilus double clicking started the .ogg in gnome-smplayer, while double clicking it in a gnome session starts it with totem. More details, more bt. I found out that: - starting twm - (probably not necessary) starting gnome-settings-manager - starting gdb nautilus starts a window with $HOME open, fine. And a second window "the desktop" of Nautilus. On this window I right click on a .ogg on my desktop, a new window "Creating Properties window blablabla" comes up, and hangs there forever and ever and ever. BUT: If I *close* *only* the nautilus window of $HOME, the file browser, the properties dialog shows up *immediately*! After that, re-opening a nautilus dir browser window crashes with the attached bt.-------------------- Back to normal gnome session: - right clicking .ogg file, properties, same window. - while the "creating" window is open and hanging there: - open a "dir browser nautilus window" by double clicking on "Computer" or "norbert's Home" Bang, the properties dialog is here. Doing other things again we get a segfault.------------------------ So there seems to be a genuin communication/race/whatever problem, but it is easy for me to redo it. Hey, this is an old bug. Could you please still reproduce this issue with newer nautilus version like 3.4.2-1+build1 or 3.8.2-3 ? It works fine here with nautilus 3.12.2-1. thanks regards althaser
