Sometimes I receive email messages sent by poor clients which, for
instance, have big PDF attachments with MIME type incorrectly set to
"text/html". Icedove tries to display inline the PDF as HTML, so it
hangs for a few minutes loading the message. This is quite annoying.

Icedove should refuse to show inline too big HTML or plain text
attachment and ask the user if he really want to do so.

I'm setting the severity to "normal" and not to "wishlist", because this
bug makes icedove unusable for a while because of remote errors.

your reported bug is still openend, but no one else reported similar
problems.
So I think your behavior isn't existing anymore in the current
versions of icedove. But can you please check the current status on your
side, for me that works without problems.

This is an email with a rather large PDF attachment, whose MIME type is

When I open it, icedove freezes until it has written the content of the
PDF file as a text (and CPU usage goes to 100%). This is somewhat
tolerable on my i7 processor, but it may be more frustrating on other
computers, where it actually may be seen by the user as a program freeze.

Oh yes, that's horrible slow.

You can help us a little bit with some logfiles. Or even better, please
open a bug in the bugtracker on Mozilla, because this must be fixed
upstream.

You will find on the wiki site for Icedove some infos how to collect the
needed logs.

I think it's not a problem while acting into the filesystem. I thougt it
is to see within a gdb season and/or in the error console of Icedove.
If you can take deeper into what's going on that would be very helpful.
