If I press Ctrl-C on the command prompt, the bash prints ^C
at the cursor position, overwriting existing text. The old
bash 3.2 didn't, but just went to a new empty line.

This is a serious usability problem for me, since I cannot
reuse the typed text using copy and paste via the mouse.

AFAICS this is neither documented in the man page, nor in the
bash reference manual. Is there some way to turn this off?

The same problem here. Strg+c does not send SIGINT, just prints ^C.

(but I'll leave it up to the maintainer or submitter to merge it).
