A website can steal focus, preventing normal task switching operations
from taking place within the X11 system. (causing the browser to regain
focus, if a task switch takes place), such as via the following link:

http://www.digicrime.com/blackhole.html

The raise or lower windows facility, is disabled via the
browser preferences but the window still gains focus:

Menu, Edit, Preferences, Button: Advanced, Tickbox: Raise or lower
windows: unticked

Hi,

Sorry for the delayed answer.

I can't reproduce this with either the version in lenny, which is the
same as you (unfortunately), or the version in squeeze. Does that happen
in a clean profile ?

Cheers,

Mike

Could you try with some other window manager, preferably awesome or
metacity (that I already have installed and configured) ?

Hi Mike. I just tested this using awesome, and the problem does not occur, so I guess that the window managers that you are using are masking the problem. (I guess that the window manager needs to support focus stealing for this to happen.)

The problem can be seen using icewm or jwm. I'll try and test some more window managers, as time permits.

This problem was reported against iceweasel, but it also affects iceape. Do I need to file a separate bug report for that?

If I recall correctly what i saw when investigating another issue, iceweasel
doesn't do anything that other gtk/gdk applications wouldn't. I'm inclined to
say there's something wrong with icewm and jwm.

Hi Mike. I have tested again. This time with iceape version 2.0.5 and fvwm.
The problem still occurs. Javascript is grabbing the focus and the window is becoming raised. I think if Javascript cannot raise or lower windows, it should not be able to grab the focus either. (Or maybe we need a separate option to explicitly prevent Javascript from allowing windows to grab the focus).

Regards,

Mark.

Hi Mike. I have tested again.

I have tested this again. This time with version 2.0.9. The problem still occurs.

Please remove the moreinfo, unreproducible tags, so that this bug does not get skipped over by developers working on the project.

thanks

Yet, I still believe this is a problem with some window managers.
