I wondered why my system is hanging some time at startup.
I used bootchart and it turned out that starting spamassassin
takes nearly half of my boot time.
This is not due any dependencies not being fulfilled at that time.
Starting it manually later takes the same amount of time:
root:~# time /etc/init.d/spamassassin start
Starting SpamAssassin Mail Filter Daemon: spamd.
real 0m12.483s
user 0m0.192s
sys 0m0.032s
After installing spamassassin/stable, it is wayyy faster:
root:~# time /etc/init.d/spamassassin start
Starting SpamAssassin Mail Filter Daemon: spamd.
real 0m0.243s
user 0m0.224s
sys 0m0.016s
I did an strace -f -r, cut from it what I hope to be the relevant section
and attached it.
