When dpkg/apt asks if the user wants to install
the package maintainers configuration file/stay
with the actual configuration/show a diff/examine
the situation, it would be very nice to have an
option to interactively merge the the maintainers
version. This might be done using

sdiff -s -o $merged $config $config.maintainer

followed by writing $merged to $config and
deleting $config.maintainer.

Hi,

This is probably the most popular (and oldest) wishlist request on dpkg.
It would have been nice to verify that it was not already submitted
before-hand (and avoid me the non-productive triaging work).
