When a HTML file uses something like:

  <p style="font-family: Times,serif">This is a test.</p>

I get an ugly bitmap font.

If some package needs to be installed, it should be added to
"Suggests".

Yes, it is. I said that in case some testers would have changed
the default (and also for me, to remember).

Also note that ttf-mscorefonts-installer is also installed.

And I'm not sure whether this matters, but...

I think it does matter and I'm inclined to think this is a fontconfig
font selection problem.
