* Package name : cassandra Version : 0.7.0 Upstream Author : Apache Cassandra Team * URL : http://cassandra.apache.org * License : Apache License 2.0 Programming Lang: Java Description : highly scalable distributed datastore (database) Apache Cassandra is a distributed, schema-free, sparse-table database. Its shared-nothing design and client tunable eventual consistency result in both linear scalability, and a high level of fault tolerance. Cassandra is ideally suited to very large datasets, high write throughput, and for distributing redundant copies of data across racks and data-centers.
retitle 585905 RFP: cassandra -- highly scalable distributed datastore (database) noowner 585905 thanks Hi, This is an automatic email to change the status of cassandra back from ITP (Intent to Package) to RFP (Request for Package), because this bug hasn't seen any activity during the last 6 months. If you are still interested in adopting cassandra, please send a mail to <control@bugs.debian.org> with: retitle 585905 ITP: cassandra -- highly scalable distributed datastore (database) owner 585905 ! thanks However, it is not recommended to keep ITP for a long time without acting on the package, as it might cause other prospective maintainers to refrain from packaging that software. It is also a good idea to document your progress on this ITP from time to time, by mailing <585905@bugs.debian.org>. Thank you for your interest in Debian,
Hi Eric! Since Cassandra 1.0 is scheduled for next month, do you think you could push a package for this release? Thanks.
Hi Eric, I would like to help on cassandra packaging. What's current status ? Is there a git repository somewhere ? From a quick look, it seems that some build-dependencies are missing : * avro * compress-lzf * high-scale-lib * jamm * snakeyaml * thrift (but you seems to be working on it) Maybe a can start working on those ? Cheers,
[ Damien Raude-Morvan ] Great, the more the merrier! The most up-to-date work is what is checked into the upstream repository (I had planned to fork from there when the time came). Right, packaging the dependencies is the first order of business, (and I don't have a current list, but this looks woefully short). A good place to start would be to suss out the full list of dependencies (including versions), check them against what is already packaged for Debian, and then start packaging the rest (and if you could copy this report with links to the RFP/ITPs, that'd be great). Thanks!

retitle 585905 RFP: cassandra -- highly scalable distributed datastore noowner 585905 tag 585905 - pending thanks Hi, A long time ago, you expressed interest in packaging cassandra. Unfortunately, it seems that it did not happen. In Debian, we try not to keep ITP bugs open for a too long time, as it might cause other prospective maintainers to refrain from packaging the software. This is an automatic email to change the status of cassandra back from ITP (Intent to Package) to RFP (Request for Package), because this bug hasn't seen any activity during the last 12 months. Hello, I am looking into packaging of Apache Cassandra now. It seems to depend on Apache Hadoop as of v3.11.4: [javac] /home/andrius/debian-packages/cassandra/src/java/org/apache/cassandra/client/RingCache.java:32: error: package org.apache.hadoop.conf does not exist [javac] import org.apache.hadoop.conf.Configuration; [javac] /home/andrius/debian-packages/cassandra/src/java/org/apache/cassandra/hadoop/ColumnFamilySplit.java:20: error: package org.apache.hadoop.io does not exist [javac] import org.apache.hadoop.io.Writable; [javac] /home/andrius/debian-packages/cassandra/src/java/org/apache/cassandra/hadoop/ColumnFamilySplit.java:21: error: package org.apache.hadoop.mapreduce does not exist [javac] import org.apache.hadoop.mapreduce.InputSplit; And so on. So this is to mark the fact. Best, Andrius
control: unblock -1 by 793644 Hello, Apache Cassandra can be built and run without the need of Hadoop. Hadoop-dependent Cassandra classes can be removed without affecting the build process. Thus these classes possibly serve just as plug-in interface. Best, Andrius
