Hi,

since yesterday, iirc, hp-systray fails to start and leaves a python
process behind, which consumes 100% cpu time.

This is all I can get as debug output:

# hp-systray -l debug

After python on Squeeze got updated today to 2.6, I experienced this bug
as well. I tried deleting the ~./hplip folder and logging back in but
neither hp-systray nor hp-toolbox could load. Then I tried having
aptitude reinstall the hplip packages which also didn't fix it.

Finally I installed all the hplip and hpijs packages from sid and this
fixed up everything. The hp-systray is there on login and hp-toolbox
works fine.

So updating to this new hplip from sid now actually fixes the problem
since Squeeze now has python2.6 in place.

Perhaps if you and/or others see it fixed as well we can get Sid's now
working hplip into Squeeze officially? The one currently in Squeeze was
broken by the python2.6 upgrade so we really need the hplip/hpijs
packages upgraded too.

Matthais,

Could you please forward a copy of the output from `hpcheck -r`.

Also things appear to be quite muddled with the python transition, so if you could provide some details of your current python configuration that would also assist.

Thanks,
Mark

Matthias,

These errors look like the problem.

Can you set aside your ~/.hplip directory as see if that assists.

Your bug doesn't appear to effecting everyone, thus I'm setting severity important.

Thanks,
Mark

Hello Mark,

Am Montag, 12. Juli 2010 schrieben Sie:

ok, I moved the config directory away, but the bug is still there. I
took a look at the config files, too, and found out that they appear to
be just empty files. Debug output is below.

Since this didn't help, I deleted the pdf-printers and the unknown
printer from the cups config files, but the problem is still there.
Debug output attached below, too.

Any suggestions? I could learn python and dig into the problem myself or
do some more debugging, just need a hint where to start (and maybe some
time ;)

Best regards,
Matthias

Hi,

If found some time to dig in a bit.

It looks like it has something to do with python-qt4, because the
app.exec_() in /usr/share/hplip/ui4/systemtray.py:725 fails/locks it up.

This is a call for QApplication to start, so it looks like something
goes wrong here.

Regards,
Matthias

PS: Not being able to kill PyQt-apps has this reason:

Sorry but this is beyond my ability to debug. I have forwarded your reports upstream.

I suggest you may need to continue working with upstream on your issue:

Hi,

well, I found out something new.

I'm using gtk-qt-engine and even though hp-systray uses PyQt there seems
to be a connection.

If I deactivate the usage of the gtk style engine hp-systray works fine.
If I activate it, it hangs like I mentioned before.

Regards,
Matthias
