In the publicity Bof at debconf, we agreed that we need to better
communicate to DD the various communication channels that are available
and the way that they are expected to use them.

Among important things:
- we want to make sure that people use d-d-a only for stuff relevant to
  developers only, other announces or press-releases ought to be sent to
  debian-news or debian-announce via the press team
- we want developers to use wiki.debian.org/DeveloperNews if they have
  stuff that's not worth a single mail to d-d-a
- we want contributors to suggest entries for the Debian Project News by
  sending mails to debian-publicity
- we want people to coordinate announces/press releases with
  debian-publicity@l.d.o or press@debian.org (only for announces that
  should not leak via the ML)
- we want DD to know that they can help because they have commit rights
  to the DPN svn repository

Maybe people from debian-publicity have other items to suggest.

I don't think this is an appropriate recommendation.  If someone thinks a
given bit of news is relevant to non-developers, it's fine for it to be
repeated on debian-news or debian-announce; but debian-devel-announce is the
single list that all developers are required to subscribe to, so if it's
information that is relevant to developers *as well*, it should still go to
that list.

Hi, I'm new here so ignore me if this doesn't make any sense, but
could debian-devel-announce itself be subscribed to debian-announce?
A couple of large software companies I've worked for had internal
mailing lists set up like that, with some groups being supersets of
others.

d-d-a should be for stuff relevant to developers. It does not seems reasonable to
block something because it can be relevant to non-developers, especially since almost
everything posted to d-d-a is relevant to some non-developers.

Do we really want that ? debian-devel seems a better choice since it allows people to reply
more easily that wiki.debian.org/DeveloperNews. DeveloperNews can then add a link to the
thread.

It's not "blocking". We just want people to think about it and decide
whether the slight delay is worth the effore because the message will
reach more people.

We want people to post to -devel and write a short summary with a link in
DeveloperNews so that it's also posted to d-d-a for those not following
debian-devel.
