Hello,

Currently, if we want a Postfix setup with quota support working and that, without recompiling, maildrop is a good solution.
However, maildrop only support the Courier software (as it is shipped within Debian) but patches [0] for Dovecot authentication exists.

If you want enterprise class quota support (I mean, for instance, Dovecot can deliver quota informations to Thunderbord what courier can't)
without recompiling softwares maildrop with Dovecot might be a good solution, I found.

With that, we could support quota out of the box with quota informations in your email client.
Could you please apply that patch to the Debian maildrop version ?

Thanks and regards,

Henry-Nicolas Tourneur

Hey Sam, Osamu.

In version 2.5.5-1, Debian has integrated the dovecot-auth patch[0] into
it's maildrop packages.
Osamu who maintains the package now decided do drop it because of it
being unmaintained, which may be in the long-term a security problem
(i.e. no one is looking after that code).

I think we've talked about this before, but I don't recall the exact
outcome and maybe the situation has changed in the meantime, but do you
see any chances to merge the patch upstream?

Dovecot is surely one of the biggest IMAP/POP3 servers in the FLOSS and
the commercial world and people who would like to use maildrop with it
would benefit probably a lot from having that patch integrated upstream.

Or do you see any other chances to make dovecot-auth directly working in
maildrop anytime soon?

Osamu, I've reopened the old bug now since it's no longer fixed.
Depending on what Sam decides, we can then finally deal with it (either
by having it merged upstream, another solution or by closing it
wontfix).

Thanks,
Chris.

I am considering it. This is not a lot of code, but for me to take
responsibility for it, since nobody else cares about it, I'll need to slowly
pick it apart.

Furthermore, I would like to believe that if there was, indeed, any demand
for this kind of integration, someone would surely be willing to maintain
this integration piece. Nature abhors a vacuum, so if this is now abandoned,
for whatever reason, someone would surely be found, to take over.

Hi Sam,

RE: https://bugs.debian.org/765579

Yah, I thought the upstream of patch (mr.maX) was temporary out. So I
rebased it to the current source. But the upstream of patch is quiet
for communication (I thought I sent message. CCing here.) and not seem
to be actively promoting his patch to Sam. That made me uneasy to carry
Debian-only patch. That made me to stop applying.
person like Sam (possibly with mr.maX), I will be happy to have this
functionality. (I think it may be better to change dlopen instead of
linking it like now so library package dependency is optional.)

Regards,

Osamu
PS: I attach patch here for the record.

Hi,

In 2.7.1-2, dovocet support together with courier auth support were
removed. In 2.7.1-3, courier auth support was reactivated.

So I am keeping this bug open but let me also point out some auth
problem encountered in 2.7.1-2 may have been fixed in 2.7.1-3 currently
in unstable with unblock approved for release in Jessie.

See bug #774598 maildrop: Maildrop package is not build with authlib support.

I am not going to reactivate patch but keep it in the source package.
So I am attaching wontfix tag. If upstrean start support it, I will be
happy to reactivate this feature.

Regards,

Osamu

I am going to close this bug report as it was previously tagged wontfix and I
don’t think that situation is going to change.
