When I upgraded Synaptic to the 0.70~pre1 version, I noticed that the quick search field suddenly became unselectable at all for me (never really used it much personally, but I'm reporting this for the people that do), as well as what appears to be a rather nasty visual glitch as well. I've attached a screenshot of the window itself in case this helps. I can't tab to this field or click on it, which makes it completely unusable for me. Switching between the various toolbar options doesn't fix this either. Here's what I'm currently using:
Thanks, could you quickly check if you have the apt-xapian-index package installed? Its a recommends to synaptic. I guess it should really add a explaination if that was the reason. Cheers, Michael
Forwarding this to the bugtracker, as it took until now for me to realize that it wasn't going to the bugtracker (my fault). The source of the problem has been found. Ah, now it works after running that command. However, I didn't see a rebuilding search index just from installing the package itself. As for the output: xapianDoIndexUpdate() xapainIndexNeedsUpdate() xapian outdated 2792 running update-apt-xapian-index xapianIndexUpdateFinished: 0
Hi, I have a build on an amd64 box and this problem exists. On my x86 box with an almost identical build, the problem does not exist. I installed the apt- xapian-index package and this didn't solve the problem on my amd64 box, although I checked and the package was already automatically installed on my x86 box and this doesn't have the problem. I issued the command synaptic -o Debug::Synaptic::Xapian=true, and this cured the problem and allowed me to type text into the search box. Unfortunately there is still some kind of line or shadow above the box, which doesn't look like it should be there. I guess this is filed as a different bug. Please let me know if I can help any further. Many thanks, Chris.
