Hello,

I'm sending the welcome mail to the first non-uploading DD candidate and
as I'm reviewing what it says I'll put here a list of things that don't
work out of the box.

http://www.debian.org/devel/join/nm-step1
"This means that the Applicant should have experience of packaging and
package maintenance or experience of documenting or translating,
depending on the area they want to work in."
This is almost good, but "documenting or translating" is quite limiting.
System administration also fits, for example, and I wouldn't call web
team work as documenting.

"The Applicant needs to have read the developer documentation [...]"
non uploading DDs don't particularly need to read most of the
documentation listed there.

http://www.debian.org/devel/join/nm-step4
Same as before, the list of example tasks should probably be expanded.

http://www.debian.org/devel/join/nm-checklist
It is surprisingly mostly ok. Just the very first line says "and have
been uploading your packages for six months" which should probably
become "and if you package software, you should already have been a
Debian Maintainer for some months".

(from nm_assigned.txt). The welcome mail has wording like this, or
generally treats people as newbys. Since we require people to already
have debian experience before joining, that approach is now incorrect.
I'll look into a serious rewrite of it.

Ciao,

Enrico

Hi Enrico,

Feel free to ask if you need help or if you want me to review a proposal
replacement for the planned non-uploading DD modification.

Friendly,
