Comments/Problems:
boot loader: mkofboot couldn't find /proc/scsi (existing Bug #572869).
After manually editing /etc/yaboot.conf, I was facing another problem
on boot: the disk drives seem to be detected in undefined order, and
this makes it difficult to guess correct /dev/sd letter (and yaboot
doesn't accept LABEL= syntax). I have two IDE disks (pata_cmd64x) and
one SCSI disk (the one used here) (aic7xxx).
Third problem was with X. It was running wild and filling the disk
with its log file. The salvation came with package
firmware-linux-nonfree containing the file r128_cce.bin. Still, I'm
unable to log out and in again, as this makes X hang.

With firmware-linux-nonfree: - script-ok.log: first login after booting. - Xorg.0.log.diff: first login after booting. An odd phenomen: X is started twice. - script-err-2.log: after logout. Takes long time, but login screen appears (I was a bit hasty in my earlier conclusion). - script-err-3.log: after clicking on a button on the screen. Crash, but the box appears after a long time. Without firmware-linux-nonfree: - script-err-1.log (truncated Xorg.0.log): no login screen. X running wild filling log file hundreds of kB/s. Maybe worth to mention that I have XFCE desktop.
On iMac G3/500 the situation is similar to script-err-3.log above.
Dear OP, Is the bug report still accurate ? thx
I guess I should try to install the current stable release on the machine to be able to answer the question. My guess is that the situation is more or less unchanged. Risto
Ok, I installed jessie 8.3. The main problem is still there, i.e. no display and wild running because of the missing package firmware-linux-nonfree. The other problem, with logging out and in, is away. A third, new problem has come: some text elements look strange and some windows leave garbage behind them when closed. It's still usable. Risto

2016-04-12 13:40 UTC+03.00, Mathieu Malaterre <malat@debian.org>: No, LXDE. The attached picture shows the situation after moving the file manager window around over the terminal window. Notice the heading of the window: the text is unreadable already before moving the other window on top of it. Risto
Here is what upstream says. Please (re)test.---------- Forwarded message ---------- I'm fairly sure this has to do with compositing which would make it a duplicate of bug 88767. The suggestions there (particularly "ExaNoComposite" "true" in the "Device" section) might help.
