I would like to see implemented in xpdf an option (with user configurable
binding, as usual) to trim page margins so that only the visible content box is
shown. An alternative is to just provide another special zoom level, like "fit
page", but to "fit to contents". I think, however, that the former possibility
is more general, since already existing zoom commands would operate directly on
the trimmed box; for instance, on "trim margins" mode the zoom command "fit
width" would bypass the (blank) page margins and zoom directly to the visible
width.
