In the syslog I see messages like: /usr/sbin/gpm[3519]: Request on 8 (console 10) I tried to understand what this meant (and if this indicated a problem) but failed. I use logcheck and by default these messages are not filtered out. If these messages are harmless (looks like, I haven't experienced any problems) then a logcheck rule should be written (and until this happens, this bug could be considered wishlist -- though in that case I could provide a patch). If they are not harmless, then this message should be documented (e.g. in README.gz) to give the sysadmin an idea what to look out for/tune etc.
Hello,
a year ago I reported about unclear syslog messages from gpm. Could
you clarify if they are harmless (and provide a logcheck snippet to
hide them) or if they are serious and hence should be dealt with by an
administrator?
Thanks!

Hello Jakub,
Well, I'm just reading my syslog and either something need fixing or
something needs filtering out …
I believe so, too. These are filtered out for a really long time on my
systems.
