If I switch to full screen mode using the F8 menu, then
the keyboard is lost. No key events reach the server. F8
isn't working either, i.e. I cannot leave full screen mode.

Using xvnc4viewer instead there is no such problem.

VNC server is either vnc4server (squeeze), or the current
Xtightvnc. Window manager is upstream's fvwm 2.6.1.

Thanks for the report. For now the only advice I have is to
use the xvnc4viewer. There have been problem with vnc and
fvwm in the past and it may be the one you were hit by as
well.

I can reproduce this lost keyboard in fullscreen mode issue on my side.

Unfortunately this needs to be dealt with upstream, but upstream does
not maintain Thightvnc on Linux any more. Thus, do not expect a fix in
tightvncserver going forward.
