Since Iceweasel 4 the status bar is gone. I do not have a task bar at
the bottom, so the contents in Iceweasel reaches the bottom of the
screen.

If I now try to select a large amount of text, that requires the website
to scroll down, it fails. I have to de-maximise the window first and
make sure it does not touch the bottom of the screen.

Yes. The cursor cannot leave the part of the window where the website is rendered, thus it does not see a need for scrolling.

My window decoration is configured so that there is no border if the window is maximised.
