I use icedove for only 1 purpose, to read my RSS and Atom feeds.  I
checked "Check for new articles at startup" box in the account
configuration, but that is simply not happening.

Fetching new articles manually i.e. through the menu item "File|Get New
Messages" works - so far :-P

That was quite a while ago and I no longer use icedove.  Sorry I cannot
help with this.  If you cannot reproduce I think you should close it.
