If I select the interface libsane-perl the program crash when I try to scan. When I try to scan and the system show the window Opening device, the program gscan2pdf crash.

If I select any other interface (scanimage,scanimage-perl) , I don't get the crash, but I get the a warning message very boring. (I have to accept a message after the scanning of a page)

My printer/scanner is a HP OfficeJet J5780 and my drivers are the hpijs version 3.11.5-1.1

In the previous version of gscan2pdf, I don't get that crash.

Please start gscan2pdf on the command line with the --debug option,
try to scan, and post the output from the command line.

Thanks. Please also add the output from:

scanimage --device=net:X.X.X.X:hpaio:/usb/Officejet_J5700_series?serial=CN879CV07G04TC
--help

Do you have the same problem if it is plugged directly into the
computer, rather than over the network?

Have you tried the HPLIP drivers?

Regards

Jeff

Hello.

The output of: scanimage --device=net:X.X.X.70:hpaio:/usb/Officejet_J5700_series?serial=CN879CV07G04TC --help
is:

scanimage --device=net:X.X.X.70:hpaio:/usb/Officejet_J5700_series?serial=CN879CV07G04TC --help
Usage: scanimage [OPTION]...

Start image acquisition on a scanner device and write image data to
standard output.

Parameters are separated by a blank from single-character options (e.g.
-d epson) and by a "=" from multi-character options (e.g. --device-name=epson).
-d, --device-name=DEVICE use a given scanner device (e.g. hp:/dev/scanner)
--format=pnm|tiff file format of output file
-i, --icc-profile=PROFILE include this ICC profile into TIFF file
-L, --list-devices show available scanner devices
-f, --formatted-device-list=FORMAT similar to -L, but the FORMAT of the output
can be specified: %d (device name), %v (vendor),
%m (model), %t (type), %i (index number), and
                           %n (newline)
-b, --batch[=FORMAT] working in batch mode, FORMAT is `out%d.pnm' or
`out%d.tif' by default depending on --format
--batch-start=# page number to start naming files with
--batch-count=# how many pages to scan in batch mode
--batch-increment=# increase page number in filename by #
--batch-double increment page number by two, same as
                           --batch-increment=2
--batch-prompt ask for pressing a key before scanning a page
--accept-md5-only only accept authorization requests using md5
-p, --progress print progress messages
-n, --dont-scan only set options, don't actually scan
-T, --test test backend thoroughly
-A, --all-options list all available backend options
-h, --help display this help message and exit
-v, --verbose give even more status messages
-B, --buffer-size=# change input buffer size (in kB, default 32)
-V, --version print version information

Options specific to device `net:X.X.X.70:hpaio:/usb/Officejet_J5700_series?serial=CN879CV07G04TC':
  Scan mode:
    --mode Lineart|Gray|Color [Color]
Selects the scan mode (e.g., lineart, monochrome, or color).
    --resolution 75..2400dpi [75]
Sets the resolution of the scanned image.
  Advanced:
    --contrast 0..100 [inactive]
Controls the contrast of the acquired image.
    --compression None|JPEG [JPEG]
Selects the scanner compression method for faster scans, possibly at
        the expense of image quality.
    --jpeg-quality 0..100 [10]
Sets the scanner JPEG compression factor. Larger numbers mean better
compression, and smaller numbers mean better image quality.
    --batch-scan[=(yes|no)] [no]
Enables continuous scanning with automatic document feeder (ADF).
    --source Auto|Flatbed|ADF [Auto]
Selects the scan source (such as a document-feeder).
  Geometry:
    --length-measurement Unknown|Approximate|Padded [Padded]
Selects how the scanned image length is measured and reported, which
is impossible to know in advance for scrollfed scans.
    -l 0..215.9mm [0]
Top-left x position of scan area.
    -t 0..381mm [0]
Top-left y position of scan area.
    -x 0..215.9mm [215.9]
        Width of scan-area.
    -y 0..381mm [381]
        Height of scan-area.

Type ``scanimage --help -d DEVICE'' to get list of all options for DEVICE.

List of available devices:
    net:X.X.X.70:hpaio:/usb/Officejet_J5700_series?serial=CN879CV07G04TC

In the server that is attached the scanner, the hplip drivers are installed. The version that the server is using is: HP Officejet j5700 Series, hpcups 3.10.6(en), that I think that belongs to hplip.

I have to try to test the scanner locally with the hplip and the hpijs. When I have the results I will reply.

Thanks a lot.

If I connect the scanner directly to the computer, gscan2pdf don't crash with
the libsane-perl interface.

The desktop computer is a debian testing with versions:

libsane-perl 0.03-1+b1
sane 1.0.14-9
gscan2pdf 1.0.14-9

The server is a Debian squeeze updated until today.

libsane-perl 0.03-1
sane 1.0.14-9

Does it always crash immediately after the message "Getting option 10

Please start saned on the server with debugging enabled:

SANE_DEBUG_NAME=255 saned -d128

replacing NAME with the name of your backend.

And then start gscan2pdf with debugging for the net backend enabled:

SANE_DEBUG_NET=255 gscan2pdf --log=log1 2> log2

And post log2 and the output from saned.

It looks as though the backend is asking for some authorisation for this option:

[net] sane_get_option_descriptor: option 10
[net] sane_control_option: option 10, action 0
[net] sane_control_option: remote control option
[net] sane_control_option: auth required
[net] do_authorization: dev=0x4f56f90 resource=H H{ I猉D鄉$ Hl$
H@PLd$ Ll$(Lt$0H¸
[net] do_authorization: no auth_callback present
[net] do_authorization: relaying authentication data

I'll have to do some research to work out how to handle this. In the
mean time, please turn debugging on and try to retrieve the options
with scanimage.

On the server:

SANE_DEBUG_HPLIP=255 saned -d128 > saned.log 2>&1

on the client:

SANE_DEBUG_NET=255 scanimage --help > scanimage.log 2>&1

You might need to give scanimage the device:

Thanks for your work.

I attach the logs. (without --device option and with it)
