The bug appeared recently (without details) in the testing branch. Right-clicking on applications to open context menus causes the zone of the context menu to be shortly a "pixel garbage" before clearing to the normal and effective menu. It occurs also after clicking the logout/shutdown button all around the confirmation window and could occurs in the K-Menu. It seems that this bug only happens with QT based applications because it can be noticed with KDE apps and VLC but not with Iceweasel. The bug has been shortly discussed on debian-user list : http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2011/08/msg01276.html From the original poster the bug appears on both Radeon and Geforce hardware with both open and closed source driver. I can't reproduce the bug with a LiveCD whatever the desktop environment I used (Gnome, KDE, LXDE, XFCE) but the LiveCD is based on Ubuntu. It's hard to choose what package the bug report should be filed against, so feel free to reassign it or ask more infos. My config: Debian wheezy 32bits up to date with KDE, no compositing, all effects disabled, xserver-xorg-video-radeon is the only driver installed.
Hi, I am the original poster Steve refers to, and here's what I originally wrote: I can also confirm that a quick testing showed no garbage in Firefox or Synapic, so I assume this is rather a Qt- than a KWin problem. Kind regards, Ralf
Hello, This bug disappears but I don't no why. Maybe the upgrade to Mesa 7.11? Maybe the upgrade to KDE 4.6.5-3? Should it be closed ?
Hi, the bug is still present here, with KDE 4.6.5. How do I find out which mesa version is in use? (I am still at xorg 1:7.6+8 because the update would kill fglrx) Kind regards, Ralf
Hello, My Wheezy is up to date, which means: xserver-xorg : 7.6+9 x11-common : 7.6+9 xserver-xorg-core : 1.11.1.901-2 xserver-xorg-video-radeon : 6.14.2-2 libgl1-mesa-dri, libgl1-mesa-glx, libglapi-mesa, libglu1-mesa : 7.11-6 libqtcore4 : 4.7.3-5 For KDE related packages there is actually 3 versions depending on packages : kdebase-runtime : 4.6.5-1+b1 libplasma3 : 4.6.5-2+b1 plasma-desktop : 4.6.5-3 kde-window-manager : 4.6.5-3 Could you compare with yours? Does the bug still appear with xserver-xorg-video-radeon (no fglrx)? Could you try to upgrade (removing without purging, holding necessary packages) even if it breaks fglrx? Regards, Steve
Hi, Here you go: xserver-xorg: 1:7.6+8 xserver-xorg-core: 2:1.10.4-1 x11-common: 1:7.6+9 fglrx-driver: 1:11-8-2 libgl1-mesa-dri: 7.11-6 libglu1-mesa: 7.11-6 libqtcore4: 4:4.7.3-5 kdebase-runtime: 4:4.6.5-1+b1 libplasma3: 4:4.6.5-2 kde-window-manager 4:4.6.5-3 plasma-desktop: 4:4.6.5-3 It did when I reported it, but I can not test currently, becuase I fear I can not re-install fglrx afterwards again. And I need the laptop to work during the semester, I can't afford to spend some hours repairing a broken X. Not currently, see above - 3d acceleration does not work with the open-source driver, and there is some stuff I need it for. Kind regards, Ralf
