I have no idea if I should file this as a wishlist or bug so for
now I'll submit it as a bug since it could just be a mistake of
wording in the description.

* Package name: lightdm-webkit-greeter
  Version: 0.2.3
  Upstream Author: Robert Ancell
* URL: https://launchpad.net/lightdm
* License: GPL-3
  Programming Lang: C
  Description: A LightDM greeter engine that runs HTML/CSS themes.

Ubuntu provides the package: lightdm-engine-webkit... While trying
port over some greeters I made for my Ubuntu installs I noticed
that I could not find the webkit greeter engine for LightDM yet the
lightdm package mentions it but explicitly depends gtk or qt.

Does Debians lightdm use Webkit by default (and not mention it) and
if not can there be a webkit package for lightdm provided by Debian
packing team? I would be more then happy to port it from Ubuntu
Oneric over to Debian and submit it.

retitle 641768 please package lightdm-webkit-engine
reassign 641768 wnpp
severity 641768 wishlist
thanks

There's no webkit engine in lightdm package anymore. There is a webkit
engine available but it's not packaged in Debian (and I don't intend to
package it).

Reassigning to WNPP and retitling accordingly.

lightdm-webkit-greeter seems to be quite dead upstream.
the last active user was elementary, that switched to roll out their
own greeter:
pantheon-greeter.

There's a webkit2 greeter for lightdm with recent activity:

https://github.com/Antergos/lightdm-webkit2-greeter

We might consider using it for LTSP6, and then would need to get it
packaged in Debian.

live well,

retitle -1 RFP: web-greeter -- Modern, visually appealing login
screen using LightDM

lightdm-webkit-greeter has been renamed to web-greeter and is being
actively maintained by the Antergos distro.

Dear Maintainer

The https://github.com/Antergos/web-greeter repo was archived due to:
https://fossbytes.com/antergos-linux-dead-alternatives/

A fork exists on https://github.com/JezerM/web-greeter where v3.x.x was
released recently.

Kind regards
