Hi.

I've just installed testing on a laptop with a very recent Ethernet
chipset, only supported by Linux 2.6.38 and later.

I started with the "mini" image, and failed, being unable to use the
Ethernet interface.  It turned out that the mini image uses the older
kernel (the same as in Sarge), rather than the more recent image found
int he "netboot" image (which is what I finally used).

I'm not objecting to the fact that "mini" uses an older kernel; but
I object rather strongly to this being completely undocumented.  It took
me the best part of two hours to work out what the issue was, and that
a netboot image would solve my problem.

Which mini image? A URL would be handy, as I'm not sure what you might
be using.

Hmmm, OK. That's using a d-i and kernel build from *squeeze*, not
sarge as you said to start with, I'm guessing a simple mistake on your
part when typing that! :-)

It's also a mini netboot image which is the domain of the debian-boot
team. Forwarding there for comment...

There's no release of installer yet, since squeeze, thus this still
points to the current installer. We plan to get one running soon.

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear enough.  The problem is not that the mini
image is older, that's understandable.  It's the fact that as far as
I can tell that's completely undocumented.

Please, please document it somewhere, so that other suckers don't lose
half an afternoon trying to get it to work with recent hardware.
