Hi guys,

I like to keep my messages sorted unread first, an then newest-first.

When select the Inbox of one of my accounts, and I type some text in the
filter box, the messages are filtered and remain in the above order.

But when I select the unified folder view of all my accounts' inboxen,
and then type some text in the filter box, my specified search order is
not respected. The result is still unread-first, but the dates are
oldest-first within accounts, and no-obvious-order between accounts.

When I clear the filter box text, my preferred search order returns. So
the problem is not that the search order was forgotten or overridden,
but that it is not enforced when filter text is present.

This looks like an upstream issue. We appreciate any help in forwarding
these kind of issues to bugzilla.mozilla.org. You can also recheck with
8.0~rc4-2.

Hello Wouter,

this works here with 10.0.12-1 in order you described your steps you
want the ordering.

I change the view from one of my accounts to first display the newest
mails ordered by date and then display the readed mail orderd by date.
If I start to search for example for a name I see then the newest
unreaded mail and then the already readed mails from this person. So
I would this bug isn't existing anymore, I will close this report.

Pleas reopen if you got still erros on this.

No, this bug is still alive and kicking in Icedove 10.0.12-1.

You seem to be changing the sort order of a specific account. As stated,
that works fine.

The problem is with the unified view of all accounts. The "One Inbox to
rule them all" overview. Click on the "date" header and then on the
"unread" header as often as needed to establish
unread-first-then-by-date sort order. Now put some text in the filter
box. The resulting messages appear sorted by date only.

I expect the subset to remain in unread-first-then-by-date order.

Yes, that's what you described in your first mail.

For me it works as expected with 10.0.12-1, see attached screenshot.
prefs.js.

PS: I reopend the bug, your last mail was written to a closed bug.

That is not what I intended. Sorry if that was not clear.

Click on the topmost node on the left (the one labelled "Inbox" in your
picture). This will give you a unified overview of all messages in all
your inboxes. My bug report is about what happens there. Not within the
inbox of a single specific account.

Please let me know if you are able to reproduce now. If not, I will try
messing with my prefs.js.
