This is an x86_64 system laptop (Thinkpad T400 with Intel Core 2 Duo).
Just installed xserver-xorg-video-intel and libdrm-intel1 from debian
"testing" repository yesterday to get around X server crash problem
typically encountered when playing video [1].

The newer X video driver seemed to work fine, but I found that the
LibreOffice welcome screen (see attached images) do not update certain
region of the window.

Notice that I am using backport version of the kernel (2.6.38), and this
debian OS is configured to use software from "stable" repository by
default.

Is it reproducible with 3.0 or 3.1?

Cheers,

Sorry it took so long to reply this question. I tested today on 3.1
(Linux 3.1.0-1-amd64 from Debian testing); it still shown the exact
same problem---i.e. the gray background in the libreoffice's front
page not being painted properly.
