Dear Maintainer, When installing xosview and without any further configuration whatsoever the error message I get is kind of strange: $ xosview xosview: display :0 cannot load font 7x13bold At first I thought that it was due to not installing the xfonts-base package but even after installing that package it still fails with the same error.
Thanks for your bug report! Was xosview working fine before upgrade to 1.9.1? Did you had xfonts-base installed before? <snip> ^^^ Are you sure you installed xfonts-base before sending this bug report? :)
By any chance, setting following in /etc/X11/app-defaults/XOsview xosview*font: 6x10 instead of xosview*font: 7x13bold helps?
No idea. I didn't have xosview installed before. As I said it was a clean install with no config whatsoever. When I opened reportbug I didn't and, while writing the report, I realized that I was blaming it on that package without checking first. So I installed the package, re-tested and edited the report accordingly. What's more, I was actually using the testing version at first and upgraded to the unstable version when reportbug told me that there was a new version there. It doesn't. It does change the error message, though: $ xosview xosview: display :0 cannot load font 6x10 This is the reportbug information with the current install:
Did you restart X, or run xset fp rehash, after installing the fonts? Cheers, Julien
I ran "xset fp rehash", tried again and the same thing happens. Both with 7x13bold and 6x10 :( Regards, Matías
2011/12/30 Matías Bellone <matiasbellone+debian@gmail.com>: What about X restart?
That did the trick, without changes to the config files (i.e. using 7x13bold). Sounds like the bug is in xfonts-base then, right? Regards, Matías
2011/12/31 Matías Bellone <matiasbellone+debian@gmail.com>: Thanks for testing :) Julien, what do you suggest on this? Or is it normal behavior?
I don't think there's a bug here (other than xosview not falling back to another font nicely, but I'm not sure even that can be expected). I guess "xset +fp /usr/share/fonts/X11/misc" would have worked as well instead of restarting the server. Cheers, Julien
