Hello,

I've made a search plugin for the PTS which might be useful to others.
Attached is the XML file.

Cheers,

We already have one that searches packages.debian.org. I think the
audience for this one would be even more limited. Sorry.

retitle 477347 PTS: add OpenSearch plugin (with suggestions)

Hello,

Ok, so maybe the PTS should provide an OpenSearch plugin? It would even
be better to have an OpenSearch plugin with suggestions:

http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Creating_OpenSearch_plugins_for_Firefox

I could even make this if someone is interested in integrating it.

Hi,

btw, another idea that I've learned about only today: you can
right-click in any input form and select "add a smart bookmark for
this search" in firefox. Works perfectly for the PTS.

"pts" is a usertag. User is qa.debian.org@packages.debian.org.

I have no idea of what OpenSearch plugin can possibly be.
Can you please give some more context for this request, so that it can
be better evaluated whether to implement it or not?

Thanks.

On Iceweasel (but maybe on other browsers as well), if you go to
Wikipedia, for example, it will detect that it provides a search service
and give you the possibility to add it easily to your search list.

Better, when you start typing something in the "Search" area for that
service, after having added it, it will give you suggestions, the same
way completion does in decent shells. What I had in mind for the PTS was
that sort of completion on source packages. See Wikipedia for more details.

The change will be basically to implement a webservice giving the
completion list of some (start of) request, and to advertise this search
service in PTS pages (some meta in html).

Actually, my first need was to access directly some PTS page, and the
file I submitted at the beginning of this bug report did the job. But
Christoph Berg's tip above kind of decreased the necessity for this.

I haven't implemented anything yet for the suggestion part, but I still
think it could be useful (though not urgent).
