Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

Just musing out loud if this isn't expected to work if the iPod isn't
jailbroken? In any event I was expecting the iPod being mounted and showing up
in Exaile., but it hasn't.

FTR it's mounted in Rthymn Box, but that media organizer/player won't allow me
to add or delete content.

Exaile uses libgpod, which as far as I'm aware does not require a
jailbroken iPod to work. However, I don't have an iPod and have never
used Exaile's iPod plugin before, so I can neither confirm nor help
you debug whatever problem you're having. All I can do is forward this
bug report upstream.

Before doing so, could you run Exaile from a terminal ($ LC_ALL=C
exaile --debug) and attach the output along with a step-by-step list
of instructions to reproduce this bug? Any additional information you
can provide for me to forward upstream would be helpful.

Regards,
Vincent

Thanks for your assistance Vincent. ---end quoted text--- Hello Vincent -- Be happy to provide more information. Below is the debug output. Notice there is a line about HAL not being available, so suppose that may be the problem? To reproduce the problem; simply plugin one's iPod, open Exaile and look in Exaile's device manager dialogue; nothing shown, despite the iPod shown as mounted in file manager. The iPod is also browesable through the file manager. HAL has been deprecated for a long time already, and is in the process
of being removed from Debian (as well as other distros; see [1]).
a Launchpad account, please subscribe to the upstream bug report and
converse directly with upstream developers (otherwise, I'll have to
relay replies between the Debian BTS and Launchpad, which just takes
more time).

Also, please remember to cc: the bug report (668900@bugs.debian.org)
