Dear Maintainer,

When I run vainfo I get the following:

jaime@inspironjaime2:~$ vainfo
libva: VA-API version 0.32.0
libva: va_getDriverName() returns 0
libva: Trying to open /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/i965_drv_video.so
libva error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/i965_drv_video.so init failed
libva: va_openDriver() returns -1
vaInitialize failed with error code -1 (unknown libva error),exit
jaime@inspironjaime2:~$

I don't understand why if this card is supported the library fails.

It is also weird that reportbug keeps saying the package is not installed after
I purged it and reinstalled it:

reportbug 6.3.1

Greetings,

Problem: no VA support for intel G45 and others
reason: missing i915_drv_video.so, which is not delivered by any package
solution: Should the installed i965_drv_video.so be loaded instead of
the missing i915_drv_video.so?
as said in https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1064996#p1064996

Additionally it could be useful if vainfo would tell "file missing"
instead of "unknown libva error".

I am using GMA3150 (in asus eee 1016PG) which is supported by the xorg
intel driver. https://01.org/linuxgraphics/about/supported-hardware

Hi Jamie,

sorry for taking so long to come back to you.

This lack of better diagnostics is indeed annoying here. Do you still
experience this problem with the updated packages from
debian/experimental?

If yes, then we need to talk to upstream about this issue.

That seems like a question for the debian user mailing lists.

kind regards,
    Reinhard

That's a DRI driver problem that needs to be solved in the mesa
package. Please raise this issue there.

Indeed. See my other reply in this bug report.

Dear Maintainer,

I have the same problem with my PC with an Asus P5B-VM motherboard, Intel Celeron CPU
and Intel 965G integrated graphics chipset:

$ vainfo
libva info: VA-API version 0.35.1
libva info: va_getDriverName() returns 0
libva info: Trying to open /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/dri/i965_drv_video.so
libva info: Found init function __vaDriverInit_0_35
libva error: /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/dri/i965_drv_video.so init failed
libva info: va_openDriver() returns -1
vaInitialize failed with error code -1 (unknown libva error),exit

1.3.2-1 should support VA_INTEL_DEBUG to enable more debug output. What
does VA_INTEL_DEBUG=1 vainfo report?

Cheers

"Problem: no VA support for intel G45 and others
reason: missing i915_drv_video.so, which is not delivered by any package
solution: Should the installed i965_drv_video.so be loaded instead of
the missing i915_drv_video.so?"

After looking at the source for vainfo, I tried to load
i965 and got a segfault:

env LIBVA_DRIVER_NAME=i965 VA_INTEL_DEBUG=1 vainfo
libva info: VA-API version 0.36.0
libva info: va_getDriverName() returns 0
libva info: User requested driver 'i965'

libva info: Found init function __vaDriverInit_0_36
g_intel_debug_option_flags:1
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Seems like my chipset should be supported per
https://01.org/linuxgraphics/about/supported-hardware

I suspect that your chip is not supported and that's why vainfo crashed.
What's the exact chip you are using?

The crash is fixed in intel-vaapi-driver 1.4.1-2.

	My chipset is Intel 945GME. From looking at 'vainfo'
source I learned that the driver name is from whatever driver
is loaded in the X server, as indicated in the following
lines from the X log:

	[57.145] (II) intel(0): [DRI2] Setup complete
	[57.145] (II) intel(0): [DRI2]   DRI driver: i915

From 'xserver-xorg-video-intel' source, the choice of DRI
driver to load is done in 'src/uxa/intel_dri.c':

	static const char *dri_driver_name(intel_screen_private *intel)
	{
        	const char *s = xf86GetOptValString(intel->Options, OPTION_DRI);
        	Bool dummy;

        	if (s == NULL || xf86getBoolValue(&dummy, s)) {
                	if (INTEL_INFO(intel)->gen < 030)
                        	return has_i830_dri() ? "i830" : "i915";
                	else if (INTEL_INFO(intel)->gen < 040)
                        	return "i915";
                	else
                        	return "i965";
        	}

        	return s;
	}

The 'gen' number is taken from the 'intel_device_info' structure for the particular
chip set, in my case 'intel_i945_info':

	static const struct intel_device_info intel_i945_info = {
        	.gen = 031,
	};

Hence, the i915 driver is loaded (see 'i915_video.c' and 'intel_video.c').

No video acceleration on this chipset, understood now.
