It would be nice if pppconfig could support busy redialling and multiple
phone nos using either wvdial or chat scripts.

It already does.  Look at the 'persist' option in the Advanced menu.

You mean dialing a second number if the first fails?  That's a bit harder,
and I've not seen much demand for it.
