kvm does not seem to support the unfortunately common 1366x768 resolution, with any -vga driver. A quick search turned up a previous upstream patch submission: http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.emulators.qemu/122980 However, I didn't find the promised followup patch. - Josh Triplett

As you found out, there is a reason why this resolution is not implemented -- 1366 is not dividable by 8, which is about alignment of internal structures. It isn't known still if there are any ill effect of this or not. Please direct requests of this nature to upstream instead of to debian. I will not forward it to upstream (esp. since I've no good way to test it or don't understand the reasons why a change is needed, so this bug will most likely stay in debian forever, unless one day it will be fixed upstream and someone notices and closes it in debian. Sure; however, I reported the bug against the version of the package I had installed. Alignment just came up as speculation about possible reasons. When I find a bug in a Debian package, I file it in Debian. If necessary (when I get a response like this), I file it directly upstream as well, but I find Debian's bug tracker far better than most upstreams, and in any case it helps to know when the fix makes it into the Debian package. so having that resolution in KVM would allow guests to use the full screen resolution when fullscreen. Also, testing it seems pretty trivial: boot a guest OS in KVM, and attempt to find and switch to 1366x768 using whatever tool that OS uses to change resolution. OK, I just sent a mail to upstrema about it myself. - Josh Triplett

For fun, all qemu-kvm bugs are now transferred to qemu package (after introduction of qemu-kvm transitional package in qemu), so all should be set. which bugs/features gets attention from the maintainer and which are more difficult (or unimportant) and needs upstream cooperation. You're a member of Debian Qemu project team, and I think you're pretty much capable to fix or forward this bug upstream. This my tone to you is exactly because you are a member of qemu team and as such, can at least help with some things. It is not just a "privilege", it also has some demand. Thank you! /mjt
Hello (talking about qemu-system on sid), Upstream patches referenced at faq [1], seems like is not longer working. And drivers are not availables [2] I am not able to find the correct issues at launchpad [3] I'm not sure where should I ask for this issue Seems like it is not trivial to add such support [4] Thank pointing me to the right direction [1] http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/FAQ#Can_I_have_higher_or_widescreen_resolutions_.28eg_1680_x_1050.29_in_KVM.3F [2] http://www.bearwindows.boot-land.net/vbemp.htm (404) [3] I cannot search 1366 on https://bugs.launchpad.net/qemu/ , and google seems like not find any about 1366 on such site. The problem persists eleven years later. Please, add support to this resolution.
