Qucs is an integrated circuit simulator which means you are able to

Qucs was in Debian until Squeeze, but it had to be removed because it
didn't compile with qt4 libs. Recently, upstream has released a qt4
based version, so I'm intending to include it in Debian again.

Anything new since May?
If not, I may tray to update the package for Jessie, if that's OK.
I would setup a git repository in collab-maint for that purpose.
No Qt knowledge on my side, however.
If qucs enters unstable in the next ~four days it might land in Jessie.

I've just uploaded it to the archive. I haven't had time to fix a couple of
lintian warning because of the deadline, but I think it's good enough to be
in Debian. Finally I've totally removed  adms from the sources because it
needs some verilog files with a license that's not considered dfsg. I've
been considering removing asco too because it's not in a good shape, but
finally I've left it in the sources without compiling it to avoid
introducing a bunch of dirty binaries in the package.

Yes, it is not a pure technical question. The package was ready, working
and lintian clean.
It 's a licensing problem. There are a bunch of files (mainly models) with
non-free licenses. I'm trying to clean them all, but qucs funcionality are
being reduced.
I'm trying to find a replacement to keep it all working.
Of course, the ppa package you say it's still worse in terms of licensing.
I had already removed the files I was sure that were not free, but
ftpmasters found some others.

ok, so these models are such a crucial part of Qucs that they are
"required for Qucs to either build or function" [1]. If they were just
optional (more or less plugins like flashplugin-nonfree is for
iceweasel), I believe it would be fine to keep Qucs in main, but
that's maybe not the case.

Hi, any news since February?

Some questions for my understanding:

  - Which are the non-free models in Qucs,
    i.e. which files in the repository?

  - Are they required to build and/or work qith Qucs?
    Or are they optional?

  - Is the github repository now the official one?
    (It seems to have newer changes than the SF one.)

It seems there has been some upstream progress with the issues. Also upstream
seems to have at least some interest in a Debian package.

Yes, there are still several files, vhdl mainly, whose license is  not
clear.

Dear all.

We have released qucsator-0.0.20 [1]. It has been part of qucs, but it
is also being used without qucs. It will also work in combination with
any statically linked (qt3, non-debian) build of qucs or some of its
forks. I think it will be good to have qucsator in Debian. Please
consider packageing it e.g. within the electronics team [2].

The qucs qt5 implementation is progressing, and it will still support
qucsator as a simulator backend.

Hi Ruben,

Are you still intending to package qucs? If not, I would like to take
over ITP #714836.

Going through the bug history, the verilog-A problem was fixed
upstream in 0.0.19, and all 39 remaining .va files in the tree are
under the GPL.

I intend to use your work on salsa.debian.org/science-team/qucs
as a starting point.

I am not a DD, so I will need a sponsor, but otherwise I believe I can
handle maintaining this package.
