* Package name : su2 Version : 2.0.5 Upstream Author : Susquared Developers <susquared-dev@lists.stanford.edu> * URL : http://su2.stanford.edu * License : GPL Programming Lang: C++, Python Description : The SU2 software suite specializes in high fidelity PDE analysis and design of PDE constrained systems on unstructured domains. The suite itself is composed of several C++ analysis modules that handle specific tasks, including the solution of the PDE system, decomposition of the domain for parallel computations, grid deformation, and many other tasks required for shape optimization and sensitivity studies. Some specifics of these modules can be found on the SU2 Tools page of this documentation with more complete information available in the Developer's Guide. The current development of this code is done by the Aerospace Design Lab at Stanford University.

The reasoning is: 1) It's not obvious to a casual observer that "su2" is really su^2 meaning SUU meaning "Stanford University Unstructured" (WTF is this last word when it comes to name a software package anyway)? 2) There's a tool named "su" which usage is kind of ubiquitous on systems of the Unix ilk, including Debian. So I would say "su2" will be perceived by may as something improving on that venerable "su" utility (like "su 2.0") rather than being something completely unrelated.

Solving PDEs numerically involves discretizing a solution domain with a grid. The grids may be "structured" or "unstructured." A primary feature of su^2 is its use of unstructured grids - hence the name. I imagine I'll run into more difficulties with packaging. Is there anyone who might be interested in sponsoring this package? Cheers! Aniket
retitle 715509 RFP: su2 -- Software for PDE based analysis and optimization noowner 715509 tag 715509 - pending thanks Hi, A long time ago, you expressed interest in packaging su2. Unfortunately, it seems that it did not happen. In Debian, we try not to keep ITP bugs open for a too long time, as it might cause other prospective maintainers to refrain from packaging the software. This is an automatic email to change the status of su2 back from ITP (Intent to Package) to RFP (Request for Package), because this bug hasn't seen any activity during the last 12 months. If you are still interested in packaging su2, please send a mail to <control@bugs.debian.org> with: retitle 715509 ITP: su2 -- Software for PDE based analysis and optimization owner 715509 ! thanks It is also a good idea to document your progress on this ITP from time to time, by mailing <715509@bugs.debian.org>. If you need guidance on how to package this software, please reply to this email, and/or contact the debian-mentors@lists.debian.org mailing list. Thank you for your interest in Debian,
