Dear Maintainer,
I'm experiencing a memory leak very similar to those that were around on
versions 3.0 or 3.2 of the package. Takes around 2 hours to get up to 400MB of
RAM usage, and it even got to 2GB of RAM during the course of a day (leaving it
unattended for a good bunch tho).
I tested disabling all of my extensions and the results is pretty much the
same, maybe a little slower to get to the same amount.

I have another computer using Arch with gnome 3.10 and the leak doesn't appear
to be present there, even when I have pretty much the same setup (Desktop
Environment wise).
Could this be a particular issue with the current version on testing?

After further searching through the web, I stumbled across this issue on redhat
bugzilla: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=995799
It hasn't had much attention, but the description was enough to give me a hint
about something I was ignoring, which was a particularity of the computer where
I was experiencing the leak: I had setup a background rotating app (Cortina).

So, after disabling it, I can confirm the leak is gone.
After trying manually setting the background and using a gnome-shell extension
that manages the rotating wallpapers as well, I can conclude that it definitely
is a leak on the background managing code on gnome-shell.
I'm not sure if the problem have been addressed on newer versions of the
package; so far I have found some bugs and patches on the gnome-shell mailing
list, but they appear to be already on the current package of debian testing,
so it may be something new.

Anyway, the bug isn't as severe as I thought, I can live without rotating
wallpapers. Hope this description can help solve the issue in the future tho.

I can confirm this issue. Every time the background gets changed gnome-shell
consumes additional ~150 MB without freeing them again.
