After some upgrade, Code::Blocks no longer have an icon in the Gnome 3 dock and
application list. (There's still an icon in the Alt-Tab popup.) Since the dock
only shows icons and not program names, it's essentially invisible there, and I
keep forgetting that it's there.

Hi Ove,

at least for me, Code::Blocks still has icons in the Gnome 3 dock and
the application list. I have pretty much the same setup as you (Debian
testing, codblocks 12.11-3), so I don't see, what could cause the problem.

Do you still experience the issue? And if so, could you specify, which
upgrade(s) let the icons vanish?

Best regards,
Andreas

Well, I've looked into things a bit, and I think it has something to do
with me running fglrx. For some reason, I think Gnome is using smaller
fonts and icons when running fglrx than when running the open-source
radeon driver. (The codeblocks icon is visible if I run the latter.) Not
sure where I can adjust that. Regardless, I think codeblocks ought to
have an icon that is visible regardless of what font/icon size Gnome
prefers, don't you think?

Actually, I can confirm your observation on another machine with Radeon
graphics card:
When using the proprietary fglrx, Code::Blocks does not show an icon,
but it is shown using the radeon driver.

This is a weird bug, and it might be difficult to solve, because a
non-free package is involved.

That should certainly be the case, but I don't understand why Gnome uses
different fonts, depending on the video driver, or how that could lead
to the icon not being displayed.
