Randomly my system (Wheezy) freezes, so that no mouse or keyboard
inbut is possible and
the last image displayed by the monitors is stuck.
I can still ssh to the affected computer by a remote computer.
Can anyone confirm this bug in that particular nvidia driver version?

I forgot to mention that I could grab the following dmesg output from
the affected
computer through a ssh connection right after it froze.

Is this something that started suddenly (e.g. after some upgrade) after
it was OK for a long time?
Is this a fresh wheezy installation done not long ago?
Is this a "grown system" upgradeded from whatever old release to wheezy?

Please try the newer drivers from wheezy/backports.

Hi,
might be a hardware issue. It happens when I accidentally hit my PC case
and it mostly happens just after starting up. Usually it doesn't happen
after a longer while anymore.

Link to the old bug report:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=667684

Back then I could solve the issue by upgrading to version 304.37-1.
Now, I don't really remember when theses upgrades came in, I am using
nvidia-glx in version 304.88. So since a little while I have this random
freezes. I don't think it is a hardware related failure. Because after a reboot
(right after the system froze) my computer can run for hours without any
freezes.

No it is not a fresh installation. I installed the system when wheezy still was the
official testing release.

I will give it a go. Thanks!

  ^^

These packages are "Removed" but have "Conffiles remaining" as encoded
in the "rc" prefix of the line, that's fine.
Purging the packages would also remove their conffiles.

Seems to still happen with the 340 series of drivers. I just had two
crashes in a row; the first one was a freeze while running, and the
second happened before X even finished booting when I restarted.

The boot record in /var/log/messages contains an interesting warning
from the driver right before the crash:

currently configured to drive a VGA console

has fallen off the bus.

From my own research I understand that the VGA/vesafb warning is
because this machine is booting in EFI mode where there is no 'raw' VGA
device available, only an EFI framebuffer device.

There is some older discussion on the Nvidia forums at

https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/537302/linux/reproducible-nvrm-gpu-at-0000-01-00-0-has-fallen-off-the-bus-both-screens-black-xorg-at-100-/1/

The final post in that thread (from 2013/11/13) asserts that the issue
may be due to powermizer settings.
