Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

I don't know, possibly the upgrading of some package (I upgrade my
testing distro daily).

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?

I plug in a USB stick or a USB external harddisk.

   * What was the outcome of this action?

Nothing happens (in Nautilus).

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

I used to get a pop-up about the plugged in USB drive and it would be
shown in the Places menu and in the Computer menu and in all menus where
'file locations' are shown. But that doesn't happen anymore.

Some other observations:
- I do see the device getting plugged in when I look at dmesg, for
  example:

- also udevadm monitor sees the device coming by
- the automount options in dconf-editor are all enabled as they should
  be (by default)

So why are my USB drives not mounted (and shown) anymore by Nautilus?

Some extra observations:
- the USB stick does appear in the "Devices" section in the Nautilus
  side bar (used to be in Places). When I click it there, it *does*
  get mounted in /media/<username>, but I do not get a pop-up when
  inserting the USB stick into the computer (notifications *are* enabled)
- the USB stick is also shown in the Disks application
- The Edit Mount Options menu shows "Automatic Mount Options" to be "ON"
- My external USB hard disk (which also refused to be mounted lately),
  now suddenly does get mounted and also shows the pop-up

Ah! I tried the USB stick in another USB port: now I do get the pop-up
and it gets auto-mounted...!

But why isn't it auto-mounting from the other USB port??

Can you still reproduce the issue on your usb slot ? does it work if you
mount manually ? is it damaged ?

Hi,

I have lots of problems with this still, but I suspect it is some
problem with my USB ports... I'm not sure yet.
