Booting debian-jessie-DI-a1-amd64-netinst.iso or
debian-testing-amd64-netinst.iso(20140504) and starting Graphical
Install, console shows:

(WW) The fbdev driver didn't call xf86SetGamma
to initialise the gamma values PLEASE FIX THE 'fbdev' DRIVER!
(EE)
Fatal server error:
(EE) Server is already active for display 0

Despite this, xorg seems to work ok. Reproduced on laptop and VirtualBox.

Comments/Problems:

See screen shots below, but errors displayed is “Unable to install initramfs-tools” and syslog shows:
in-target: E
in-target: Packages need to be removed by remove is disabled
base-installer: error: existing on error base-installer/kernal/failed-package-install
Notes: I’ve just tried installed 8.10 again directly into 40GB partition on of the drives and it still fails with the same error. Both attempts I just used default installer in high priority setting. Only non standard options first time round were custom partitioning/LVM/raid, second attempt was all stand options.

The system log show the base installer exiting because it couldn’t remove a package. Although I’ve installed Debian before and am relatively comfortable on the comandline of a functioning linux machine I couldn’t work out how to extract the log files to upload them here. I have included photographs of the end of log file.

I discovered by going Alt-F4 the termail print out for X server, which appeared not to be happy. I check the log file for Xorg server and it said it has a fatal server error (see photo of log file). It’s X.org <http://x.org/> X Server version 1.16.4 and error seems to match bug #747042. The original bug implied it didn’t stop the system working, which would seem to be true in my case as well as this error comes up before installer stops.

Any ideas about a workaround would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Peter
