Many/all operation dialogs steal the focus when opening.  During
automated operations, this causes the workstation to be unusable.  As
an example, I recently started a chain on a project and while Audacity
was working on the audio I went to do something else.  As part of my
work I pressed the Enter key, but just as my finger was coming down
onto the key, Audacity stole the focus.  Because "Cancel" is the only
button on many/all of the operation dialogs, this caused me to
inadvertently cancel the entire operation.  When using chains, it is
normal for Audacity to steal the focus as often as every second, or
more often, depending of course on the time required to perform each
operation.

comment from an interested user: it might be useful to have this report
become fully and easily reproducible,
by amending a simple yet nicely documented test case
(automated execution script etc.).

And yeah, I fully support your "complaint" about undesirable app behaviour.
