   * What led up to the situation?
       ran apt-get dist-upgrade (see output below)

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?
       nothing except the upgrade

   * What was the outcome of this action?
       laptop cannot wake up from sleep any longer. screen off, eventually
       text-mode with xorg/nouveau messages "trapped read, trapped write,
       CACHE_ERROR, PAGE_NOT_PRESENT"; have to turn off computer hard and
reboot

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
       laptop wakes up happily like it did for the last 1/2 year
