Dear Maintainer, I am using mate window manager. Many a times when I'm viewing a video, after sometime the window goes blank. I have to use the mouse and the video comes back. I have no idea why it happens. As shared above, I have a speculation that the screensaver might be kicking in but have no idea if it's happening, why it's happening like that. Looking forward for people to fix it or tell me what I need to do.
Seeing this on xfce too. While the timing matches the screensaver, when I lower the screensaver time and restart vlc it didn't happen. Seems intermittent so a pain to debug.
Control: tags -1 + moreinfo To reproduce the issue we need more information. Which desktop environment are you using? Do you use some very special custom config? etc. Cheers
Hi Sebastian, Thank you for taking the time out and trying to get the bottom of this. i'm using mate desktop and don't think I'm using any custom config here. It seems I have to use the mate power manager sleep inhibit applet but even using that does not get it right. It seems there is some issue with mate power manager inhibit applet itself which they are not able to work it out (as of yet). Looking forward to see if you can help in this matter.
Control: reassign -1 mate-screensaver Control: forwarded -1 https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-screensaver/issues/57 I'm sorry, but I won't be able to help you here. This looks a lot like mate-screensaver bug and needs to be addressed in mate upstream (see the mentioned upstream issue). Once mate supports the required DBus interfaces, this will just work. Re-assigning to mate-screensaver. Cheers

This won't be fixable for jessie anymore, though. Greets, Mike [1] http://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-screensaver/issues/57
I'm still seeing this on xfce with xscreensaver in sid - it's really annoying. Most likely a vlc problem.
Hi Jonathan, Nope, as discussed earlier [1], it is a problem related to not implementing the XDG Inhibit/UnHibit interface in mate-screensaver and obviously also in xscreensaver. Probably also in xscreensaver then. Might make sense to clone this bug (or file it anew against xscreensaver with enough background information).
