I have tried fbautostart, but when I reload my WM (awesome) I get
duplicate applets running :-/
I imagine the XDG autostart spec is only about invoking, nothing more
fancy. Nevertheless I imagine that a tool like fbautostart could gain
more users if handling this more sensibly, as I suspect awesome is not
alone in needing reload in some cases. So perhaps an optional feature?
Here's what I currently use in awesome:
function run_once(myprg)
- -- if not myprg then
- -- do return nil end
- -- end
os.execute("x=" .. myprg .. "; pgrep -u $USERNAME -x " .. myprg .. " || (" .. myprg " &)")
end
run_once("nm-applet")
run_once("parcimonie-applet")
...

Hi Paul,
this bug #768580 (fbautostart: please support checking if already
running) showed up as candidate for the Bug of the Day[1] today. I
admit do not really feel able to deal with this bug and its the only
open bug of this package. However, since Jelmer moved the packaging
that used to be on Alioth to Salsa[2] I took the freedom to modernise
the packaging including fixing all lintian issues. The package is
clean in Salsa CI[2].
I admit I'm tempted to do some team upload just to announce the real
Vcs location and to make the modernisation effective. Is this OK for
you?
Kind regards
Andreas.
