I am a longtime user of Debian Wheezy (and prior) but have recently
installed plain-vanilla Jessie on two different laptops, and tried them
in two different LANS (home and work), each with Debian Stable print
servers serving a variety of network printers via cups, samba, and
dns-sd.  Both laptops behave the same way in both LANs.

I can print from every OTHER application I have tried, but I cannot
print from LibreOffice.  Only the "Generic Printer" option is
displayed.  No way to get it to reload or discover other printers that I
can tell.

The only workaround I have found is to export to PDF, load the PDF file
in a viewer or browser, and print from there.  Very inconvenient.

Googled quite a bit and saw nothing.  I hope I am googling the right
terms.  Let me know if I can provide more info.

(Correct here is 1:4.3.3-1)

This is *Debians* bug tracking system, so Version: of course should be
a Debian version. This is especially important since this value is used
in the BTS to know which package is affected (and right now meeses up
that graph)

It gets the printer info rom CUPS during startup ttbomk. If it finds none...

I can't reproduce this. I have a jessie laptop and I *can* choose printers there.

(Well, not now since my print server died, but..)

This bug report is actually not about the bug I observed, so cleaning up
the mess I created.

I am actually not sure. This bug is so old that cups 2.2.3 vs. 2.2.4 didn't exist
back then but is quite new.
What makes you think this is a cups 2.2.3 vs. 2.2.4 issue? (yes, I read your above
steps, but...)

I just filed bug #867818, you should be able to reproduce it with the
comments from the referenced upstream bug report. I tested version
2.2.4-2~exp0 from experimental which also had the bug. Then I tested a
different machine running testing with cups 2.2.3-2, added the printer
via hp-setup and everything was fine, but upgrading to cups 2.2.4-1 made
the bug appear there. At last I tested a laptop with jessie and
LibreOffice 1:4.3.3-2+deb8u2 again with the steps as before, but the
printer was listed in LibreOffice and the GNOME control center, so I
believe this bug is not what I observe because it affects package
versions from jessie.

Yes, that is exactly my point. This bug is so old that it was in jessies
development, not something which would have been caused by cups 2.2.4.

Hello,

The last week I installed a fresh buster and I have seen a variant of
this bug.

When LO was first started, the printer displayed was the Generic Printer. After
closing and reopening LO displayed the correct printer.

We handled the printer's built-in scanner with Gimp and xsane. I do not
know if it was between the two openings or after the second.
